In 2001 the Mitchell family moved the funeral home from the downtown district to its current location at 901 N. Main St. As one of the newest funeral homes built in Washtenaw County, the 8,000 square-foot barrier-free building is spacious and open. It radiates a warm, home-like atmosphere.
The covered entryway is accented with natural gas lights. Just inside the foyer stands a fireplace and a stained glass memory window, which John Mitchell, Sr. designed himself. The window has pictures of the old funeral home at the Park Street location, bringing just a little piece of the old funeral home to the new location.
The funeral home is highly adaptable to meet the individual needs of families, with the potential for up to four individual visitation rooms. It can also accommodate a large gathering for visitation or services. The lounge area has a kitchenette and a separate children’s room.
