Edna M. Wenk

Edna M. Wenk, of Chelsea, MI, age 101, passed away at the Chelsea Retirement Community on January 3, 2019. She was born in Freedom Twp., MI on December 13, 1917 the daughter of Gottleib and Bertha (Eschelbach) Horning. On February 7, 1942, she married Ernest W. Wenk, and he preceded her in death in 2006. Surviving are two children William (Marlene) Wenk of Denver, and Carolyn (Patrick) McNamara of Ann Arbor, four grandchildren, Brian Wenk, Ryan (Heidi) McNamara, Erin (Chris) Nesbitt, and Jennifer (David) Smith; three great-grandchildren, Evelyn Jaymes Nesbitt, Henry Smith, and Madelyne Smith. She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth K. Wenk, in 1990.

Edna was a proud graduate of Chelsea High School. She was also a proud lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church and faithfully served the church in many ways. She was a member of Women of Zion, a Sunday school teacher, and an organist for Historic Zion Church. She loved her faith and her family. She was homemaker, worked the farm, and raised chickens. She also collected dolls.

Funeral services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, Chelsea on Monday, January 7, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Kathryn Tulman officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home on Sunday, January 6, 2019 from 2-6 p.m., as well as at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.  Expressions of sympathy may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or the Arbor Hospice Foundation.

With very heavy hearts we are so very sorry. This is Sarah ( Wenk ) Ball , Jerry & Dixie were my parents and Beth was my Sister. Our continued thoughts and prayers are with you all. I know they are all in heaven together and one day we will all be together again with them.

All my life I have known her as Aunt Edna by my Wenk cousins. She was a wonderful woman who touched many people. Over the years she was hard working and devoted to her family and to her church.
She will be missed. Prayers to the family at this difficult time.
