James Robert Ruggles

James Robert Ruggles aka “Papa” (8/25/1946-1/9/2019). At the age of 72, “Papa” left this world abruptly and at the dismay of his countless loved ones. He will be remembered by the world for his unparalleled work ethic and for his kind heart. His loved ones will remember him for those things as well, but he will be forever cherished for his willingness to give more than he had to us.  He lived his life for his family, especially his children and later in life his grand and great-grandchildren. Whether it be countless hours on the ball fields, at the lake or in the woods, he never was too tired or unwilling. His love for his “children”, whether blood or not, was pure and unconditional. He was always more enthusiastic and ambitious about your success and happiness than you ever possibly could be. He never allowed you to quit on yourself and went as far to outlaw the word, “can’t” in his presence.

He is, and will be, sorely missed by all and his legacy lives on in his five children, ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Siblings: Kathy Petty, Gary Ruggles (Barb), Sharon Makin (Ron), Jan Sorenson (Bob) and Robert Ruggles (Sue); children: Bonnie Beeman (David), Randy Ruggles (April), Andrew Ruggles, Carrie Murphy and Joshua Ruggles; grandchildren: Brianna Ruggles, Brendan Ruggles, Alexis Cook, Xavier Ruggles, Justice Ruggles, Trae Ruggles, Ryplie Murphy, Logan Murphy, Jaiden Ruggles and Emmett Beeman; great-granddaughters; Scarlett Snyder and Scarlett’s little sister (coming soon).

Visitation and funeral will be held at the Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home, 424 E. Main St. Stockbridge, MI. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2019 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held Friday, January 18, 2019 commencing at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests that any and all donations be directed to Foundation for Hope Outdoor Adventures.

Our sincere condolences for the loss of Jim. He was one of my trio of friends that have recently passed (i.e., Maynard Garrett and Gary Warner). We were friends since elementary school through the college years. Fond memories of all the activities together! Moved from MI in 1980 and no contact with Jim since then. We currently live in VA. So happy to hear he enjoyed his kids and grandkids. Would love to chat with Kathy Petty and my email is: . Best Regards, still hard to believe that he is gone.
