Robert "Bob" German

Robert "Bob" German  was called to be with the Lord on February 26, 2019. He was born on January 27, 1931 to Loyle Maxwell and Helen Irene (Van Atta) in Northville, Michigan at Sessions Hospital. He graduated from Northville High School and later attended both the University of Michigan and Michigan State. He was a member of the U.S. Army during the Korean War (1951-1954) and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan for two years. During this time, he served in the Security Agency, specializing in Morse code. He married Marjorie (Kern), his wife of 64 years, on January 29, 1955 in Frankenmuth, Michigan at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church.

Bob started his career as an assistant manager at the D & C Stores in Northville. As he advanced within the company, he lived in several Michigan communities and, ultimately, became the President of the company, which was based out of Stockbridge, Michigan. He served for a time on the boards of Michigan Retailers, Stockbridge State Bank, and Chelsea Community Hospital. Bob enjoyed golfing and working at Inverness Country Club, watching Michigan State sports, playing bridge, reading, gardening, and was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Chelsea.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie, of Chelsea, his daughter, Nancy (Dennis) Hall, of Chelsea, his daughter, Susan (Gregg) Cothern, of Grand Rapids, his granddaughter, Jenna Hall, of Chelsea, his grandson, Maxwell Cothern, of Grand Rapids, and other beloved family members. He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister and brother-in-law, Loyola “Tootie” and Robert Ely.

A Memorial Service will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church on Saturday, April 6, 2019. Visitation with the family will begin a 10:30 a.m. A church service will be held at 12:00 p.m. and will be followed by a light luncheon. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Chelsea District Library or Our Savior Lutheran Church. I have fond memories of the Germans and their friendship with my grandparents. Thinking of his family during this difficult time.

With very heavy hearts we are so sorry of Mr. Germans passing. I have so many good memories of him and his family. My parents were Jerry & Dixie Wenk , my Sister who has also passed Elizabeth, and I love your family. Heaven certainly gained another angel. You are all in our continued thoughts and prayers. Mrs. German , Miss Nancy ( Bluebell ) Mr. Jerry ,and sweet Jenna , We are so sorry.
