Max "Buck" Stewart

Max “Buck” Stewart, of Dexter, MI, age 87, passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, August 25, 2019. He was the third of five boys born to Joseph and Daisie (Cox) Stewart of Burchard, Nebraska. Max enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1952 and served four years on the USS General H.W. Butner and four years in the Navy Reserve Unit until his honorable discharge in 1960. In 1957, he married Mary Lucille Gaspari of Rockford, IL. In 1963, they moved from Rockford to Farmington Hills, MI, where he was employed by the Barton Malow Company for the remainder of his career. Max was actively involved in the Farmington Harrison High School Booster Club and spent many years enjoying Hawk football. Upon his retirement from Barton Malow, they moved to Dexter, MI to be closer to their children and grandchildren. In his retirement he enjoyed playing cards at the Dexter Senior Center, golfing, and attending athletic and school events of his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, of 57 years. He is survived by his daughters, Laura (Paul) Ledwidge and Cheryl (Brian) Luallen of Dexter, and his son, William (Joanne) Stewart of Farmington Hills, MI. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Jeremiah, Patrick, Josef, Emanuel, Rachael, Danielle, Joshua, and Michelle. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph, William, Delmont and Larry.

A celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea, MI, with visitation from 12:00 p.m. until time of service. Memorial contributions can be made to Hillside Terrace Resident Council, Ann Arbor, MI.
