Ruth Ann Gould

Ruth Ann Gould, a longtime resident of Dexter, MI, died on October 28, 2019 at the Chelsea Retirement Community at the age of 81.  She was born in Clare, MI to Thomas and Juanita Spence on October 17, 1938.  On March 31, 1959, she married Gary L. Gould. They had three sons: Jerry (Leslie) of Stockbridge, MI, Rodney (Idan) of Los Angeles, CA and Russell of Dexter. Ruth Ann was a legal secretary for the law office of the late Thomas Green in Ann Arbor and later with the engineering firm of McNamee, Porter & Seeley.

She was an active church woman having been a longtime member of St. Andrew’s United Church of Christ in Dexter and more recently the Dexter United Methodist Church.  Ruth Ann enjoyed greatly singing in her church choirs.  She was a member of the Dexter Antiquarians having served many years as president. She was also active in the Dexter Family Service.  For many years she bowled every Tuesday night at bowling alley in Dexter with cherished friends.  She enjoyed spending summer days with her family at the lake cottage.  For decades, poodles were a big part of her life, including, most recently, Rose.  She took particular joy in watching her grandchildren grow – she was very proud of each of them.

In addition to her husband and children, she is survived by her grandchildren, Jacob Gould, Thomas Gould and Hannah Gould, all of Stockbridge, Rebecca Gould of Dexter, and Andrew (Abby) Gould of Williamsburg, OH; her sisters, Yvonne Kopinski of Wyoming, MI and Karen Davis of Hope, MI; her sister-in-law, Louise Fetter of Doylestown, PA; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Thomas Spence, a son, Ronald Gould, and a grandson, Benjamin Gould. Ruth Ann’s family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Towsley Village at the Chelsea Retirement Community for the loving care provided to her.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, November 4, 2019, 11:00 a.m., at the Dexter United Methodist Church with Pastor Matt Hook officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m., as well as at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Those wishing to make a contribution in Ruth’s memory may do so to the United Methodist Retirement Communities (UMRC).
