John Mitchell
Owner/President
Licensed Funeral Director
John joined the business in 1990 after graduating from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago. After 35 years in the industry, his passion for funeral directing and the families he serves is still strong. He loves what he does and still enjoys going to work.
John has contributed to the community in various roles. In the early days as the Tail Twister for the Chelsea Lions Club and as a member of the Inverness Country Club Board of Directors. After his own bout with cancer and treatment at Chelsea Community Hospital, he committed to volunteering countless hours working for the development of the St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Cancer Center. He has also served on the Patient Advisory Board for St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital, as well as the Board of Directors for Farmers State Bank in Munith.
He is passionate about the Chelsea Community Fair, supporting the Livestock Auction, announcing the Antique Tractor Pulls, and participating enthusiastically in the annual Chelsea Fair Parade.
Any Chelsea Parade wouldn’t be the same without him flinging frisbees atop an antique horse drawn hearse or simply driving an antique tractor or vintage truck in the Annual Hometown Holiday Light Parade.
John has a passion for collecting antiques; any thing from old boat motors to lamps, antique cars, or tractors. He loves the history and the thrill of finding new treasures.
In his spare time, he enjoys antiquing, spending time with his family, cooking, as well as fishing and hunting.
Cindy Mitchell
Owner
Cindy is a nurse by degree but has found her niche in the funeral home managing the business and financial operations.
She and John raised their four children, Wesley, Mason, AJ, and Sophie, in the Chelsea community and over the years enjoyed watching their children’s various sporting events as well as band and orchestra events.
Over the years, Cindy has volunteered for the community in many areas, serving the Chelsea Education Foundation, the Chelsea High School Scholarship Committee, and volunteering for the Chelsea Community Hospital, Ele’s Place, Chelsea schools, as well as the Chelsea Athletic Boosters.
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her now adult kids and their significant others, cooking, and spending time outdoors, whether hiking or gardening.
Andrew Mitchell
Licensed Funeral Director
Andrew J. Mitchell “AJ” has been a dedicated part of our family funeral home since 2014, officially becoming a licensed funeral director in 2024.
AJ graduated from Chelsea High School, Class of 2020. He attended Grand Valley State University and then completed his studies at Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago.
Returning to Chelsea to serve his hometown means the world to AJ. He is excited to contribute to the well-being of his community and help families navigate one of life’s most difficult times with compassion, care, and professionalism.
As a Gen Z funeral director, AJ is also deeply passionate about modernizing funeral services to better meet the needs of today’s families. From offering innovative options to embracing technology, he strives to bring a fresh approach while respecting the traditions that make each service meaningful.
Outside of his professional life, AJ enjoys spending time outdoors, whether it's hunting, fishing, or playing a round of golf at Inverness Country Club. His love for the outdoors and the Chelsea community gives him a unique perspective on both life and service.
