Norman L. Osborn

Norman L. "Norm" Osborn, age 79, of Stockbridge, passed away on April 11, 2023. Norman was born on April 8, 1944 in Inglewood, California to Richard and Carol (Hammerquist) Osborn.

Norm moved to Mason, Michigan in 2012 from California. He married Vivian A. (Warner) August 2, 2014. Norm loved gardening and researching family genealogy. Photography was a true passion for Norm, and he created his own small business with his love for that.

Norm is survived by his loving wife, Vivian, and children, Sherrie Barnes of Arizona, Ryan Osborn of California, Beth Riegert of Leslie, Ben Rickman of Jackson, and Ashleigh Rickman of Leslie; two sisters, Lynn Reimer of Oregon and Anna Gilliland of Leslie; 10 grandchildren, and eight (plus one on the way) great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, including Lisa Allen, and her son, Alex, and two dear friends, Milton Ries and Dan Dembinski, who helped take care of Norm. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Donovan Osborn.

Scott Rabideau

Scott Rabideau, age 49, passed away on April 12, 2023, at his home in Stockbridge, MI. Scott was born on January 20, 1974 in Lansing, MI to Darryl and Suzanne (Schneider) Rabideau.

Scott had lived in Stockbridge for the last three years moving from the Brighton, MI area. In his earlier days he loved being outdoors fishing, playing football, and baseball. He was a pitcher and enjoyed playing on travel baseball teams. He enjoyed having his friends over for bonfires, and he loved listening to music. He felt it moved his soul.

He is survived by both his parents of Stockbridge, one son, Jacob Teal of Howell, MI; his siblings, Adam (Donielle) Rabideau of North Carolina, Joy (Andrew) Pfeiffer of Ypsilanti, Dave Rabideau of Stockbridge, Kimberly (Darrin) Dodge of Nashville, Lisa (Ryan) Ley of Horton, MI; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Don (Bea) Schneider and James (Esther) Rabideau, as well as a niece, Brittanie Preston.

Per his wishes, he has donated his body to science. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Gift of Life.

Elizabeth A. Webb

Elizabeth Ann Webb, age 66, passed away on April 7, 2023 in Mason, MI. Elizabeth was born on July 28, 1956 in West Van Lear, KY to Carl and Mary Lou (Patrick) Webb. She had worked for the Department of Corrections for seven years. Elizabeth loved country music, watching Westerns, and working in her garden with her dad. Most of all, she loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Christy Webb of Mason, MI; two grandchildren, Kirsten Webb and Brent Smith; a sister, Janet Webb of Stockbridge, brother, David Webb, and special friend, Mike Dalton; as well as several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Judy Barker, Natalie Clark, and infant sister, Nina Webb.

A funeral service will be held at the Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. with John Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Nadine T. Koch

Nadine T. Koch, of Chelsea, Michigan, passed away at her home surrounded by her family on April 5, 2023.

She was born the daughter of Carl and Dorothy (Stark) Lentz on July 11, 1943 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Nadine went to St. Mary School until 8th grade and graduated from Chelsea High School, Class of 1961.  

Nadine was employed at Chelsea State Bank for the last 19 years and always greeted customers with a smile.  She conducted morning prayers at funeral homes for many years, worked at Heydlauff's for several years, and taught Sunday School and Catechism.

Nadine is survived by her children, Todd (Holly) Koch, Jeanette (Patrick) Koch-Irish, Julie Stotler, and Jill (Chuck) Kovick; eight grandchildren, Lauren (Andy) Clemons, Sabrina Heydlauff, Kaitlin (Jeremy) Van Orman, Erin (Branden) Bisher, Rebecca Stotler, Tristan Koch, Colin Kovick, and Lainey Kovick; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Helen (Ed) Kain.

The family will receive friends at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home on Friday, April 14, 2023 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be prayed on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Mary Catholic Church with the V. Rev. Dr. William J. Canon Turner officiating. Burial will be private.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the St Louis Center.

Terry Lee Schoonover

Terry Lee Schoonover, of Stockbridge, MI, age 76, passed away on January 30, 2023 at his home. Terry was born on May 13, 1946 in Pontiac, MI to Carl and Lucille (Sheldon) Schoonover.

Terry moved to the Stockbridge area in 1954, moving from Pontiac. He graduated from Stockbridge High School in 1965. He then attended Michigan State University in the MSU Agriculture Short Course, graduating in 1967. He enjoyed farming and International Tractors. He was a member of Busy Beavers 4-H in Jackson County. He loved being a farmer, and he liked to visit with people. Terry was a partner in Sunny Crest Farms with his parents and brother. They raised potatoes over forty years.

He is survived by a brother, Duane (Carolyn) Schoonover of Stockbridge, and sister, Carol (Buster) Myer of Stockbridge, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023, 11:00 a.m., at the Southwest Church of the Nazarene in Gregory, MI. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Arloa I. Smith

Arloa I. Smith, age 86, of Stockbridge, MI, passed away on March 16, 2023 at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home in Jackson, MI. Arloa was born on May 19, 1936 in White Oak Township, MI to Clinton Asa and Lucille Grace (Marsh) Proctor.

She had lived in the Stockbridge area all of her life. She was a life member of the Millville United Methodist Church and was well known around town, working for Abbott & Fillmore for over 40 years. She was an avid MSU fan and enjoyed working in her garden, growing the most beautiful flowers. She also loved taking care of her family, cooking and baking for them.

On July 14, 1957, she married the love of her life, Mark I. Smith, at her parent's home in Millville, and he survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Deborah (Jeff) Shepard of Jackson; sister, Cloteal Maclaren of Florida, brother, Clinton (JoAnn) Proctor of Jackson, sister-in-law, Dorothy Proctor of Stockbridge; two grandchildren, Brittany (Milian) Cordero and Alexandra (Christopher) Davis, and two great-grandchildren, Enzo and Emory; along with several nieces and nephews, who fondly knew her as Aunt Lolo. She was preceded in death by her brother, Hilbert Proctor.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023, 11:00 a.m., at Millville United Methodist Church with Pastor Rhonda Osterman officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 10-11 a.m.

Larry L. Howard

Larry L. Howard, age 71, of Stockbridge, MI, passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2023 at his home.

Larry was born on January 25, 1952 in Salyersville, KY to Clyde and Glady (Montgomery) Howard. He had lived in the Stockbridge area most of his life, moving from Kentucky when he was 18 years old.

He worked for the Jackson County Resource Recovery Facility, retiring after 20 years of service. He enjoyed working on cars, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his kids and grandkids.

On May 8, 1982, he married Rhonda Lynn (Minix), and she preceded him in death on January 24, 2007. Surviving are three children, Allisa (James) Baum of Jackson, Nicole (Brent) Stowe of Stockbridge, and Travis Howard of Laurium, MI; four grandchildren, Jessica, Madison, Cassandra, and Cade; his siblings: Clyde Jr. (Jewel) Howard of Salyersville, KY, Stewart Howard of Brooklyn, MI, Ina Blanton of Salyersville, Chloteen (Gary) Fish of Florida; and Gail Smith of Salyersville, KY; and brother-in-law, Chuck Minix of Stockbridge, MI. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.

Funeral Services will be on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. from the Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home in Stockbridge, MI, with Pastor Jeff Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 from 5-7 p.m., and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Roberta E. "Bobbie" Wagner

Roberta E. "Bobbie" Wagner, age 77, of Grayling, MI, formerly of Dexter, MI, passed away January 18, 2023 at her home with her husband of 59 years, Robert "Bob" Wagner, at her side.

She was born on February 18, 1945 to Frank and Leona Mannor. Bobbie was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan but lived in Dexter most of her life until retiring and moving to their home in Grayling, Michigan, where she passed.

Bobbie was always busy helping out with the fireman's picnics and dinners, making her famous coleslaw and other foods. She enjoyed racing every weekend with Bob. Bobbie enjoyed trips out West, vacationing and hunting in Wyoming. She also enjoyed spending time with all her nieces, nephews, brothers, sisters, and all the rest of the kids, either babysitting, camping, or taking them up North cherry picking. She was never bored, always working outside, and spending time with her dog, Obie. She enjoyed life and never gave up!

Bobbie's siblings are Ronald and Claudia Mannor of Fowlerville, MI, Dianna and Donald Merkel of Georgia, Ellen Policht of Grayling, MI, Leland and Sherri Mannor of Oregon, Joseph Mannor of Michigan, Deb and Cecil Welch of Wayne, MI, and Leanna Mannor of Ann Arbor, MI.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Frank and Leona Mannor; and her brothers, Frank Mannor Jr, and Daniel Mannor.

A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Dexter, Michigan.

Elizabeth Dawn Caplis

Elizabeth Dawn (Stanford) Caplis, of Sylvan Township, Michigan, age 75, passed away on March 28, 2023 following a brief cancer diagnosis. She was born on August 14, 1947 in Baltimore, Maryland, the daughter of Walter and Charlotte (Finck) Stanford. Dawn married Thomas Edward Caplis, who precedes her in death.

Dawn raised her three children with Thomas before beginning a career in medical records at the University of Michigan Hospital. She was an instructor at Baker College. In later years, she served on the planning commission for Sylvan Township and as a trustee for the Chelsea District Library. Growing up in a military family, she lived in England, Spain, and Savannah, Georgia and loved to travel. She would also be found gardening, quilting, and card-making with family and friends.

Dawn is survived by her three children, Jennifer Caplis (Dr. Mark Bortolussi) of Marshall, MI, John (Dr. Laura) Caplis of Alpena, MI, and Robert Caplis of Chelsea, MI; three grandchildren, Connor, Jack, and Claire Caplis; and her siblings in Maryland: Doris Stanford, Frances Haslup, Michael Stanford, Dolores Ward, and Kimberly Whalon. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Thomas Stanford.

Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 3, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church of Chelsea with V. Rev. Dr. William J. Canon Turner officiating. Interment will commence at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Chelsea. Family will receive friends at church from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

Dwight Caldwell

Dwight Caldwell, age 76, of Tecumseh, MI, passed away on March 26, 2023 at his home. Dwight was born on June 23, 1946 in Pikeville, KY to Pritchard and Helen (Dignall) Caldwell.

Dwight grew up in Kentucky and moved to Michigan when he was 19. He had lived in the Tecumseh area since the late 70's. He worked for Ford Motor Company, retiring after 30 plus years of service. He was a member of the UAW and remained involved even after he retired. Dwight enjoyed being outdoors, whether it was hunting or fishing. He was an avid deer hunter, and at one point owned his own taxidermy business.

Dwight is survived by his son, James (Lori) Caldwell of Jackson, eight grandchildren, Kortney, Jackie, Zach, Gracee, Patrick, Elizabeth, Bradon, and Hallie; and one great-grandchild, Freya; his siblings, Eva June Thayer, Herschel Caldwell, and Paul (Libbey) Caldwell. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Joseph Caldwell, and two of his siblings, PJudy and Cleda.
