Erwin A. Herrst Sr.

Erwin Alan Herrst Sr., age 66, of Manchester, MI, passed away at his home on June 11, 2025. He was born on November 16, 1958, in Ann Arbor, MI, the son of Bernard Sr. and Elizabeth (Zahn) Herrst.

Erwin was raised on the Herrst family farm in Chelsea and graduated from Chelsea High School in 1977. A lifelong hard worker, he worked as a farmer and heavy equipment operator. Known and respected by many, Erwin was a familiar face in his community. He was a longtime member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Chelsea, where he enjoyed making sauerkraut and selling tickets for the church’s annual sauerkraut supper—an event he enjoyed and looked forward to each year.

Erwin was a loving father and proud grandfather who cherished time with his family. He enjoyed Chelsea and Manchester high school sports and was an avid NASCAR fan.

Erwin is survived by two children, Erwin A. Herrst II and Hilary Herrst; five grandchildren: Dominik, Mason, Brooklyn, Stella, and Isabella Rose; his siblings, Bob (Sandra) Herrst, Ken (Annette) Herrst, and Sue Cervera; sister-in-law, Kathy Herrst; brother-in-law, Steve Daniels; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ron Herrst; and sisters, Elizabeth Herrst and Rose Ann Daniels.

Visitation will take place at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The family will also receive friends at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2025, 11:00 a.m., at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Chelsea, with Pastor Daniel Pezzica officiating.
