Judie Ann Alonso, age 79, of Chelsea, MI, passed away at her home surrounded by her family on April 26, 2026.
Judie was born on March 7, 1947 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Charlie and Mary (Melton) Maxwell. Judie graduated from Detroit Business College and worked as an Executive Secretary for Cadillac Engineering. She was a strong believer in Jesus Christ, and faith and family were the center of her life. She was a loving and dedicated wife, an amazing mother, and a wonderful caring grandma.
She married Fermin Alonso Jr. on February 17, 1968, and they enjoyed 58 wonderful years of marriage. Fermin and Judie raised their family in Westland, MI and moved to the Chelsea area in 1998. She enjoyed sewing personally and professionally and was employed at the Teddy Bear Factory in Chelsea. She also enjoyed quilting and basket weaving, making many heirloom quilts and baskets for her family to treasure. Judie had a special fondness decorating for Halloween, a holiday she celebrated with enthusiasm and joy, creating so many fun memories for her family.
Judie’s family was of the utmost importance to her, loving to hear about her kid’s day or the latest on all of her grandkids with their jobs, school, and sports. Attending numerous soccer, baseball, basketball, softball, and volleyball games, she was always there for her family in every way possible; whether it be to help solve an issue, be a shoulder to cry on, or fix it with food. Words cannot describe how deeply she will be missed each and every day.
Judie is survived by her husband, Fermin; two children, F. Edward (Laura) Alonso of Canton, MI, and Maria Alonso of Battle Creek; five beloved grandchildren: Lily (Joe Boldiszar) Alonso, Benjamin Alonso, Audrey Alonso-Horn, Andrew Alonso-Horn, and Ava Alonso-Horn. She was preceded in death by her parents.
