David M. Maynard

David Michael Maynard, age 44, was born on December 17, 1976 in Chicago, IL, and he passed away on May 22, 2021 in Webberville, MI.

He was the husband of 24 years to Brenda Maynard; father to Joseph (Haley) Maynard and grandfather to Quinnly and Huxley Maynard; father to Cory (Parkar) Maynard; and father to Logan Maynard. He was a son to Delores Gonzalez and Javier Gonzalez; and brother to Thomas Maynard, Johnathan Maynard, Noemi Fernandez, Javier J. Gonzalez, and Catherine Villegas. David was a grandson to Julieana Gonzalez, and nephew to Shirley Profeta, James Profeta, Sandy Gonzalez, and Linda Gonzalez (his Godmother). He was an uncle to Anthony, Breeanna, Johnathan, Derek, Nevaeh, Mylani, Jaythen, Leonardo, Juliana, Dominick, Aurora, Joshua, Manuel, Conner, Diego, and Enzo.

Dr. Bruce T. Stubbs

Dr. Bruce Truman Stubbs of Ann Arbor, Michigan passed away on May 22, 2021 at the age of 86 years.

He was the loving husband of Mary Paul Stubbs (née Brown) for 63 years. Together they raised four children: Bruce Truman Jr., Timothy John, Kirk James (deceased), and Colleen Mara. They had 11 grandchildren. He is further survived by his youngest brother, Don Stubbs.

Dr. Stubbs graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School at the top of his class. Following medical school, he moved to Chelsea, Michigan to practice and later to become one of several co-founders of the Chelsea Community Hospital (now St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea), where he maintained a family practice.

Already well into his career, in the 1970’s he decided to pursue an orthopedic degree and returned to the University of Michigan to train as a surgeon. He practiced orthopedic medicine at Orthopedic Surgery Associates and St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor until retirement. Following his retirement, he continued to work as a volunteer physician at the Packard Community Clinic and the Hope Clinic in Ann Arbor.

For years, Dr. Stubbs and Mary Paul made missionary trips to India, Africa, and other developing countries, often with their children, to teach and donate medical equipment. He taught orthopedic surgery for a number of years at the Christian Medical College in Vellore, India. He invented and patented multiple specialized medical devises for surgery. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church. He was an avid skier, squash player, and golfer.

Dr. Stubbs was a selfless healer and a quiet man who spoke with action.

There will be a family service later in the summer to celebrate his life. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Louis Center or St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital.

Debra K. Outwater

Debra K. Outwater, age 60, of Jackson, MI, passed away at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital on Thursday, May 20, 2021. She was born in Jackson on April 4, 1961, the daughter of Joseph and Carol (Stowe) Higgins.

Debra is survived by her children, Stephanie (Chad) Stowe of Stockbridge, MI, and Cody (Samantha) McClinchey of Jackson; eight grandchildren; her siblings: Cheryl (David) Allen of Pleasant Lake, MI, Sue (Ray) Craddock of Grass Lake, MI, and Michael (Eileen) McClinchey of Stockbridge; as well as her father, Joseph Higgins. She was preceded in death by her mother, and her daughter, Jamie Outwater.

A Graveside Service will take place on Sunday, May 30, 2021, noon, at Munith Cemetery in Munith, MI. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution in Debra’s memory may do so to the Stockbridge Area Emergency Services Authority (SAESA). Arrangements by Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home, Stockbridge.

Steve Kime

Carl S. (Steve) Kime, age 63, passed away on May 19, 2021 at his home in Chelsea, MI. Steve was born in Detroit, MI on May 9, 1958, son of Carl E. and Jean A. (Sessions) Kime.

Steve lived in the Chelsea area for over 30 years. He earned his bachelor degree from Eastern Michigan University, and he served the community as a real estate broker. He loved his daughters, and especially enjoyed golfing with his friends.

Survivors include his daughters, Stephanie Kime of Roswell, Georgia, Ashley Kime of Ann Arbor, MI, and Samantha (Richard Simmons, Jr.) Kime of Saline, MI; his sisters, Laura (Scott) Heringer of Phoenix, AZ, and Linda (Martin) Fortner of Loganville, GA; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Gary Dils, Jeff (Julie) Dils, and Melanie (Robert) Murrell; as well as six nephews and four nieces. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, and the girls’ mother, Kathy Sue.

In accordance with his wishes, Steve has been cremated.

A Memorial Service is scheduled for Saturday, June 5, 2021, 1:00 p.m., at Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea, with the Rev. Kathy Schell officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

James V. Fowler

James Victor Fowler died on Sunday, May 16, 2021, at age 83, at his home in Lansing, MI. Jim and his twin brother, John, were born in Detroit, MI to Victor and Eleanor (Wilson) Fowler.

Jim was a proud graduate of Catholic Central High School, and served in the United States Air Force and National Guard before graduating from the University of Detroit in 1964. During college, Jim worked as a casualty claims supervisor for Allstate Insurance Company, and then for the insurance marketing division of Ford Motor Credit. Jim completed his law degree at the Detroit College of Law in 1973, became a member of the Bar Association, and was a successful, self-employed attorney until his retirement. Post-retirement, he enjoyed a variety of jobs, driving cars, and substitute teaching high school classes.

Jim was an avid lover of baseball, playing and coaching most of his life, including coaching his children and others through Chelsea’s (MI) Community Education Program. He coached the winners of the Recreation League Class B Championship at McCabe Field in 1953 (Twin Pines Team); he played at the Senior Games in Utah, and his last games were played on the beaches of Corpus Christi, TX at age 76. Jim also loved dogs, cars, going to car shows, car races, bowling, movies, ice cream, telling jokes, taking photos of the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders with his brother, and reading the newspaper while outdoors. He was an exceptional father and friend, and he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his son, Mike Fowler, and daughter, Kate (Robert) Fletcher; grandchildren, Kristen Horn and Curtis (Kayla) Fletcher; and three great-granddaughters, Aubrie, Brooklyn, and Mia. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, John, and his beloved son, Joe.

Jim will be cremated and then laid to rest with his son, Joe, at a graveside service scheduled on Saturday, July 17, 2021, 11:00 a.m., at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Chelsea, MI. Funeral directors are following current Michigan Department of Health and Human Services guidelines for COVID-19; those attending will be instructed accordingly and social distancing procedures must be followed.

Bill Peters, Jr.

Bill Peters, Jr., age 76, of Munith, MI passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at his home. He was born May 29, 1944 in Prestonsburg, KY the son of Bill Sr. and Maudie (Compton) Peters.

Bill had lived in the Munith area since 1951, moving from Floyd Co., Kentucky. He worked as an injection mold operator for Quick Plastics. Bill was a member of Little Vineyard Church of Old Regular Baptist. He loved antiques and going to auctions and garage sales.

Bill is survived by one brother, Roy (Karen) Peters of California, and several cousins, including Felix Compton of Munith. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Wade Peters.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 21, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. from the Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home, Stockbridge. Burial will follow at Fitchburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 -11:00 a.m.

Funeral directors are following current Michigan Department of Health and Human Services guidelines for COVID-19; those attending will be instructed accordingly. Social distancing must be followed.

Shirley A. Vandervoort

Shirley A. (Barth) Vandervoort, age 84, passed away on May 11, 2021 at the Jackson County Medical Care Facility of Jackson, MI. She was born in Chelsea, MI on March 8, 1937, daughter of Arthur M. and Effie (Mae) Barth. She married Adrianus (Art) B. Vandervoort, and he preceded her in death in 2006.

Shirley grew up on a sheep farm in the Chelsea area. She loved deer hunting and spending any amount of time up north at the family deer camp where she and Art ultimately retired—affectionately known as The Possum’s Nest. Most of all, she loved her family.

She is survived by her children, Jeff (Michelle) Weber, Todd (Shelly) Weber, Lisa Smith, and David (Tammy) Weber; grandchildren, Joshua, Ilah, and Kristi; great-grandchildren, Damien, Logan, and Landan; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Art, she was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers, Art Barth, Jr. and Don Barth.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 14, 11:00 a.m., Avery Township Cemetery, in Atlanta, MI. Expressions of sympathy may be made in Shirley’s name to the Elk Country Animal Shelter, 11484 Youngs Rd., Atlanta, MI 49709. Arrangements by Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea.

Sandra Kay Dolan

Sandra Kay Dolan of Lansing, MI, passed away at the McLaren Hospital on April, 29, 2021. She was born the daughter of Fred and Katherine (Risner) Cox on April 14, 1968. On March 19, 1991, she married Dean Dolan, and he survives.

Sandra loved her family and getting together for big family meals around the holidays, especially for Christmas. She was a lover of all animals and enjoyed feeding the squirrels at her house. Most of all she was a loving daughter, sister, and mother.

In addition to her husband, Dean, Sandra is survived by her children, Jonny Dolan and Crystal Dolan; her brother, Bret Cox, and her sister, Deborah (Richard) Wells. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Dawn Sparks, her stepfather, Archie Aseltine, stepmother, Cheryl Cox, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.

A gathering of friends and family will take place on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at the Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home, 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place at the Fitchburg Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society.

Dudley H. Howard

Dudley H. Howard, 56, of Stockbridge, MI, passed away at his home on Monday, April 26, 2021. He was born February 26, 1965 in Jackson, MI to Willard and Annabell (Risner) Howard.

Dudley was a member of Electrical Union Local #252 in Ann Arbor, MI, working for various contractors, including his family’s business, Harper Electric. Dudley was a proud parent to James (Andrew), Elizabeth, and Alexis Howard, who survive him. In addition, Dudley is survived by his mother, Annabell; brother, Brian (Kaci); nieces, Madison and Hailey Howard; six beautiful grandchildren, Aria, Lyle, and Addison Ellis, Luca Ciatta, Corbin and Millie Fagan. He was preceded in death by his father, Willard, in July 2014.

Dudley will be remembered for his quick wit and sunny personality. He was a very compassionate and caring individual and friend. Dudley liked to play cards and was an avid Michigan football fan.

A memorial service is planned for Monday, May 3, 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., at the Highest Praise Worship Center, Stockbridge, MI, with a burial to follow at Oaklawn Cemetery, also in Stockbridge. Werner Wolf

Werner Wolf, of Whitmore Lake, MI, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family on May 17, 2020. He was born the son of Emil and Anna (Hagmann) Wolf on December 20, 1929. On May 17, 1952, he married Ilse Helene (Spindler), and she preceded him in death on May 19, 2018; she called him home on their 68th wedding anniversary to dance!

Werner and his wife moved to the United States in 1953, and he started a career as a tool and die machinist for Argus in Ann Arbor, MI. In later years, he worked for the University of Michigan. Werner enjoyed being a hobby farmer, raising goats and going to shows, as well as hunting, fishing, making sausage, gardening, and attending U of M football parties. He was very proud of his garden, hard cider, his annual hayride, and adopting and welcoming many U of M grad students.

He is survived by his children, Nancy Gross and Kim (Dan) Trinkle; grandchildren, Christopher (Katie) Trinkle, Heather (Joel) Powers, Jason Trinkle, Jessica (Patrick) St. Amour, Jennifer (Jason) Weinmann, and Tim (Anna) Gross; and great-grandchildren, Lyn, Wade, Parker, Alli, Aiden, Kenzie, Colton, Evan, Jack, and two on the way.

A memorial service is in the planning stages with family. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to Arbor Hospice.
