Leo Patrick Hollenbeck, age 70, of Pinckney, MI, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2022. He was born on June 18, 1952 in Ann Arbor, MI to Clifford Hollenbeck and Ellen Cecelia (Lobdell) Hollenbeck.

Leo grew up in Dexter, MI. He was a cub scout then boy scout. Leo attended the St. Joseph Catholic School through 8th grade, then graduated from Dexter High School, Class of 1970, where he played football.

In 1977, Leo graduated from Cleary College, Ypsilanti, MI, Magna Cum Laude, with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree majoring in accounting. He became a Certified Public Accountant with membership in the Michigan Association of CPA's and the American Association of CPA's. He worked for Chrysler Corporation in Dexter, MI then Yeo & Yeo in Lansing, MI. Later, Leo became the Controller then Treasurer and Vice President for ALRO Steel Corporation in Jackson, MI. Leo served on the Board of Family Services & Children's Aid in Jackson, MI.

Leo enjoyed sports, being an avid fan of the University of Michigan. He particularly enjoyed golfing. Also, he enjoyed traveling. His favorite places were Hawaii and Las Vegas. On October 26, 1974, Leo married the love of his life, Heidi Renee Hiser Hollenbeck. They were married nearly 48 years. He loved his family. He was a man of faith, and celebrating Christmas was his joy. He and Heidi hosted "The Christmas Party" as a gift to their families for over 30 years.

Leo is survived by his loving wife, Heidi Renee Hiser Hollenbeck, brothers, John Cecil Hollenbeck (Clara) and Timothy Albert Hollenbeck (Chris), sisters-in-law, Janice Louise Lieffers Hollenbeck, Lori Lynne Miles Hollenbeck Ashcraft (Stan), and Sherri Lisa Hiser Holmen (Jeffrey); brothers-in-law, Johnie Meiers, Mark William Hiser (Lisa), many wonderful nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Leo was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mary Jane Hollenbeck Wilson Meiers, brothers, Clifford James Hollenbeck, Michael Allen Hollenbeck, and his mother's second husband, Francis G. Birch.

Special thanks to a great friend, Michael Dettling (Tami) of Chelsea, MI, for his lifelong friendship and donating a kidney to transplant in Leo, giving him the gift of life. Thank you to Alvin Glick, ALRO Steel, Jackson, MI who helped Leo obtain the best medical care possible, along with all the doctors, nurses, therapists, and staff that have cared for Leo through the years. Thank you to Don and Lori Rademaker for your love and friendship.

Visitation will be held at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea, on Friday, July 15, 2022 from 4-7 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2022, 11:00 a.m., at the Dexter United Methodist Church, with Dr. Matt Hook and Rev. Tom Snyder co-officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 10-11 a.m. Burial will be at Arborcrest Memorial Park in Ann Arbor.

Craig E. Perkins

Craig E. Perkins, age 83, of Munith, MI, passed away on July 7, 2022 at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home in Jackson, MI. Craig was born on July 27, 1938 in Guilford, Maine to Byron and Georgia (Stover) Perkins.

Craig served in the United States Army during peacetime. He had lived in the Stockbridge and Munith area for the past 43 years. He was a member of the Stockbridge United Methodist Church, and he enjoyed spending time outside, fishing, and woodworking.

On February 14, 1970, he married Marjorie (Lane), and she survives him. They had four children: Shawn (Jessica) Perkins of Jackson, Elizabeth Noble of Stockbridge, and Russell (Debora) Benson of Maybee, MI, and a son who preceded him in death, Leslie Benson; also surviving are ten grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren; his siblings, Sandra (Marvin) Taylor of Maine, and Leroy (Diana) Perkins of Maine. In addition to his son, Leslie, he was also preceded in death by three grandsons, David, Dustin, and Anthony.

A brief Memorial Service will be held at the Mackinder-Glenn American Legion Post #510 on Friday, July 15, 2022, 11:00 a.m., followed by military honors and then a luncheon to follow. Burial will be at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Stockbridge United Methodist Church or Stockbridge Outreach. Arrangements by Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home.

Rosemary Hungerman

Rosemary Hungerman, age 90, died on July 8, 2022 from natural causes, surrounded by her loving family.

As a military spouse and the mother of six children, she skillfully piloted a large Air Force family as they traveled to assignments across the U.S. and abroad. She also took compassionate care of her mother who had a serious mental health diagnosis. Rosemary was a smart, capable woman who challenged her children to excel in education. She loved reading, completing the daily crossword puzzle, and playing expert-level Bridge. She also enjoyed creating lovely quilts for family and friends.

Rosemary was born to Howard “Nick” Dove and Marguerite (Johnson). When Marguerite died soon after her birth, Rosemary was adopted by her paternal aunt, Bertha Detwiler, and husband, Earl. She grew up in Chicago and spent summers with her two sisters, Dorothy and Barbara, and other relatives in Ludington, MI. Her family moved to Wood-Ridge, NJ during her early high school years and then to Detroit where she graduated from St. Agnes H.S. in 1949, and where she met her future husband, Paul Hungerman. She graduated from Marygrove College in Detroit with a BS in Dietetics in 1953 and later completed a Masters in Hospital Administration from Central Michigan University.

During Paul’s Air Force career, Paul and Rosemary were stationed at Colorado Springs, CO, San Antonio, TX, Lakenheath AFB, England, O’Fallon, IL, Montgomery, AL, Ramstein AFB, Germany. During summers in England, their family adventures in the family’s 1965 “Victoria” VW camper were worthy of their own “European Vacation” movie script. Rosemary and Paul retired to Presque Isle, MI on Grand Lake where they delighted in sailing in her namesake “Li'l RoRo,” making friends and visiting their children and grandchildren. The lake house was Rosemary’s favorite home where she ended most days laughing on the deck, watching the sunset, and sipping a Manhattan.

Rosemary was predeceased in 2006 by Paul J. Hungerman, father of her children and husband of many years. She is survived by her children, Marian Bauman (Timothy), Constance Hansen (Peter), Paula Tsufis (Marc), Gretchen Devins (Randall), Mark Hungerman, and Marguerite Bertelsen (Erik); 15 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the Chelsea Retirement Community and especially the staff at Dancey House, Glazier Commons, and Kresge for their kind and considerate care of our mother.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday July 11, 2022, 11:00 a.m., at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, 901 N. Main St, Chelsea, where the family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.

A funeral lunch will follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall and Banquet Center in nearby Dexter, 8265 Dexter-Chelsea Rd, Dexter, MI 48130.

Judith K. "Judy" Barker

Judith K. “Judy” Barker, age 68, of Grass Lake, MI, passed away on July 5, 2022 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. She was born on June 3, 1954, the daughter of Carl and Mary Lou (Patrick) Webb.

Judy had lived in Grass Lake for the past 12 years, but she had lived in Stockbridge for many years where she raised her family. Judy loved spending time outdoors and gardening. She always loved having a dog, most recently her sweet Odie, which she always treated like family. Most of all she loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren.

On October 21, 1972, she married Kim Barker, and he preceded her in death in 2002. She is survived by two sons, Kim II (Wendy) Barker of Jackson, and Corey (Amberlee) Barker of Virginia; five grandchildren: Abbey, Alexis, Kaylee, Lily, Lilah; and her siblings, David Webb, Janet Wardius, and Elizabeth Webb. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Faye Clark, and infant sister, Nina Webb.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 11, 2022, 11:00 a.m., at the Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Munith. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cascades Humane Society.

John W. "Jack" Fry

John W. "Jack" Fry, age 78, passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at the Chelsea Retirement Community in Chelsea, Michigan. He was born on April 6, 1943 in Ann Arbor, Michigan to John H. and Marjorie (Jones) Fry.

Jack grew up in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He graduated from Ypsilanti High School in 1961, where he played football, basketball and baseball. Jack loved the beach, sun and water. He lived in Ypsilanti for many years where he was an officer in the Ypsilanti Police Department and later part owner of Mellancamp’s Men’s Clothiers. Later he managed restaurants on Nantucket, MA and in West Palm Beach, FL. He also owned a men's fine clothing store in Jupiter, FL. He enjoyed all sports, especially football and baseball, and he was an avid University of Michigan and Detroit Lions fan. He also played drums for many years and toured with the Stan Kenton Big Band.

Jack is survived by his life-long friend and loving companion, Maxine Elliott-Moulton of Chelsea, MI, two daughters, Lauren (Billy) Ranta, and Lindsay (Rafael) Dubois both of Florida, and one son, Matthew G. Fry of Boston, MA; Maxine's children, Robert (Erin) Moulton of Ypsilanti and Kathy (Todd) Brown of Chelsea; grandchildren, Billy Ranta, Jr., Mia R. Ranta, Ruby M. Brown and Mitchell W. Brown, and nephew, Brian (Diane) Lockwood, and niece, Tami Lockwood. He was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Fry-Lockwood.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2022, 1:30 p.m., at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 120 N Huron St, Ypsilanti, MI 48197. Masks are encouraged.

Memorial contributions may be made to the UMRC Heritage Foundation.

Gregory Raymond Arntson

Gregory Raymond Arntson, age 36, unexpectedly passed away at home on June 30, 2022. He was born February 11, 1986 to Len and Wendy Arntson.

He was a lifelong resident of Chelsea, MI. Greg attended Chelsea High School but ultimately graduated from Washtenaw Technical Middle College. He developed a passion for computers early in life, growing and cultivating that interest into a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Eastern Michigan University. His professional endeavors led him to work with several companies over the course of his career in the Ann Arbor area, ultimately spending the past six years with IBM. 

Prior to his computer career, Greg spent a short time as a member of the United States Army. He proudly carried his Veteran Card and a flag patch in his wallet at all times.  If Greg loved you, he loved you with his whole heart. He was a fiercely loyal friend and cherished every moment with his family. Nothing gave him more pride or joy than being called “Uncle” by his nieces and nephews. He spent many hours happily playing with his favorite people, and they will miss him dearly. 

Greg is survived by his parents, sisters, Denise (Mike) Krey and Amanda (Matt) Fendt, nieces and nephews, Raylynn, Stellan, Wyatt, and Mara, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Raymond and Marjorie Dotts, and his paternal grandparents, Mabel and Erlyn Arntson, as well as beloved uncles, Richard and Ted Dotts.

Visitation will be held at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home in Chelsea, MI on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 from 6-8 p.m. The family will also receive guests on Thursday, July 7, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until the start of Greg’s Celebration of Life service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be a private family service scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Fisher House Ann Arbor.

Carlton Luckey

William C. "Carlton" Luckey, age 54, of Lansing, MI, passed away on June 29, 2022 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, MI. Carlton was born on February 15, 1968 the son of William and Melba (Hightower) Luckey.

He was born in Ft. Myers, Florida, where he grew up and lived for many years. He had lived in Lansing for the last four years, moving from Jackson. Carlton worked in his family's nursery and greenhouse business, and he enjoyed spending time outdoors and gardening.

He is survived by two sisters, Tanya (Dale) Pidd and Kimberly (Clyde) Maddox, a step-brother, David Boyle, and two nephews, James Maddox and James Pidd. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Douglas J. Mackinder

Douglas J. Mackinder, age 76, passed away at his home on June 29, 2022 in Chelsea, Michigan.

Doug was born on November 1, 1945 in Highland Park, MI to Harold and Eloise (Crandall) Mackinder. Doug and his wife were graduates of Livonia’s Benjamin Franklin High School, class of 1964. Doug then attended Lawrence Tech University in Southfield, MI. Doug moved to the Chelsea area with his family in 1982. He was a mechanical engineer who purchased his father’s Romulus company, Lincoln Park Engineering, where he served as President and CEO. Later in life he started Mack’s Transportation, servicing local residents with rides to the airport as well as a courier service for local businesses.

Doug enjoyed his hot rods, racing cars, watching NASCAR, and cracking jokes. Beyond his passion for laughter, he had a passion for trains and attending area steam engine shows. Often the whole family would load up in the car to attend the shows or go for a drive to catch a glimpse of a steam engine.

Doug was an active leader in the development of the Chelsea Youth Soccer program in the mid-1980s. He was also a former member and president of the Chelsea Kiwanis Club.

On July 13, 1968, he married Diana L. Winger in Livonia, MI. Doug is survived by her, and their sons, Jeremy Mackinder of Louisville, KY and Nathan (Emily Taylor) Mackinder of Chelsea, MI; and daughter-in-law, Ronda Mackinder of Saline, MI. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Caleb, Zachary, Bradley, Calvin, and Charlie; his brother, David (Pat) Mackinder of Livingston, MT, and a sister, Paula (Gary) Schalk of Sterling Heights, MI.  Additionally, he leaves behind his beloved springer spaniels, Daisy and Pepper. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Christopher Mackinder.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. with Eric Kieb officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. A reception will be held immediately after the service at Robin Hills Farm. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Chelsea Kiwanis Club.

Janet Guibord

Janet E. Guibord, age 71, of Chelsea, MI passed away on June 29, 2022 at her home after a two year battle with lung cancer. Janet was born on January 1, 1951 in Wyandotte, MI to Vincent and Beatrice (Grignon) Esper. Janet had lived in Chelsea for the past 12 years, moving from Dearborn. Janet was a homemaker, caring for her four children. 

On November 26 1971, she married Gregory Guibord, and he survives. Also surviving are four children, Nicole (Joseph) Montgomery of Dexter, Rebecca (John) Bennett of Livonia, Christina (Donny) Harris of Wayne, Gregory Jr. (Joanne) Guibord of Livonia; 16 grandchildren: Tommy, Cameron, Brielle, CJ, Ella, Jake, Ava, Tyler, Bryce, Luke, Aubrey, Reece, Charlotte,  Abigail, Olivia, and Logan. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vincent and Beatrice, brother, William, and sister, Pamela.

Visitation will be held at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home on Friday, July 22, 2022, from 1-4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Cancer Center or the American Lung Association. 

John A. Castle

John A. Castle, age 58, of Jackson, Michigan, passed away on June 24, 2022. John was born on August 2, 1963 in Jackson, MI to Henry and Fannie (Smith) Castle. John had lived in Jackson for the past three years, moving from Bunkerhill. He worked as a mechanic, and he enjoyed working on cars and tractors. 

On August 3, 1990, he married Deborah K. (Fitzsimmons), and she survives. Also surviving are three children, Tiffany Scott of Jackson, Karina Marshall of Jackson, and Justin (Ashlee) Marshall of Mason; four siblings, Loretta (David) Sherfield of Coldwater, Donald Castle of Fitchburg, James (Ruth) Castle of Leslie, Henry Castle, Jr. of Fitchburg, and sister-in-law, Deb Castle of Fitchburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Fannie Castle, two brothers, Chris Castle and Robert Castle, and twin sisters, Bobbie Jean and Norma Jean Castle.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
